Prof. Daswin De Silva
Professor Daswin De Silva leads the Asia Pacific Hub from La Trobe University, where he directs research in artificial intelligence and cognitive computing for industrial applications. He brings together IES members across Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia, with a focus on AI-driven automation, smart manufacturing, and stronger collaboration between academia and industry.

Hub Melbourne anchors IEEE Industrial Electronics Society activity across the Asia Pacific region, connecting members in Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia under one collaborative network. Hosted at La Trobe University, the hub coordinates flagship conferences, hands-on workshops, and industry–academia programs across its five nodes — Sydney, Auckland, Jakarta, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.
Our focus areas span artificial intelligence for industry, smart manufacturing, renewable energy systems, and young professional development. We work to connect the region’s world-class research institutions with its fast-growing advanced-manufacturing and clean-energy sectors — turning research into real-world industrial impact.
